  • Her Story:

The Year of Return: This is a depiction of a young wodaabe man from the Fulani ethnic group and the only man that featured in the "Her story remained unfinished" This is him looking his best for the Gerewol ceremony where wodaabe men dress in elaborate ornamentation decorate their faces and gather in lines to dance and sing, vying for the attentions of young women. The women judge the men on their looks, health and the prospects they offer the woman. If she finds a man that catches her eye at this ceremony she can leave her husband and marry her new favourite. This makes the men be at their best at all times. In wodaabe culture it is the men that have to meet a beauty standard. They eat healthm keep their teeth white, workout regularly, take interests in make up and face paint.
