HER STORY REMAINED UNFINISHED

In October 2019, The Abbeydale Picture House hosted my first solo exhibition. Her Story Remained Unfinished is a celebration of the beauty of Black History, a collection of portraits I drew whilst exploring the iconic black women in history. Amongst the 17 stories told through portraiture features the story of Andromeda, the Ethiopian princess and wife of the Greek god, Madeleine III, the imagined grand-daughter of the legendry Portrait of a Negress, by Marie-Guillieme Benoist and Khalifa, the Black Queen that the state of California is named after. The aim of the exhibition was to address the fear driven mission to erase the power and fortitude of black women and to shine a light like umi says.
